CASTeL Science and Mathematics Education Conference
St Patrick’s College and Dublin City University
SMEC 2006 took place on 18th and 19th September 2006 in St Patrick's College, Drumcondra and explored the interconnections between science and mathematics at all levels of education from primary to third level. In particular, it addressed the following themes:
- How essential is a good foundation in Mathematics for the teaching and learning of Science?
- How well do teaching methodologies translate between Science and Mathematics?
- Are recent interventions in Science and Mathematics syllabi and assessment at all levels having the expected impacts?
- Are there lessons to be learned from research in neuroscience, on how we learn Mathematics and Science ?
